RF Receiver ICs have ASK mode and FSK mode two families. Both of them are mainly designed for the ISM band 315/433MHz.They have very low consumer current and high sensitivity. They are integrates most circuit ccomponets on-chip and only require a few external components to work normally.The the data rate is optimized to 1 - 10kbps which fits well with the low-end data encoder or a MCU based transmitter.
